Many of the questions below have been asked often, so we share answers for your convenience.
Additional questions can be answered at the following email address:  juventus97b(remove this)@me.com.

Q:
  What are tryouts/evaluations for?

A:  Tryouts/evaluations will allow the team to replace players who have dropped off or who have moved on to other teams.  Tryouts also allow hardworking and ambitious players who have improved their playing ability to join stronger or more competitive team.  Tryouts also allow a team to increase their roster size.

Tryouts/evaluations are successful when every player is selected to a team that has a training and competitive plan that fits the player's interests and needs, with a budget and time commitment that matches the parent's willingness to support the player.

Q:   Do you have any open practices prior to the tryouts?

A: Yes, the practices will be open to anyone who might in interested in trying out for the Juventus 1997 boys.  Please contact the Juventus coaches at the e-mail listed above for details of when and where.

Q: Is their any advantage to attending a open practices prior to tryouts?

A:  Yes.  It allows the coaches to evaluate your work ethic and current technical ability against the current Juventus 97 roster.  It also allows you to experience what a typical practice is like.

Q: Can current tier 2 team players from Juventus 97s try out for Tier 1 team?

A:  Yes.

Q:  Are tryouts/evaluations the only forum where Juventus Coaching staff determines which players are selected to a Juventus Team?

A:  No, the evaluation process additionally takes place over the course of the season.  Players are in essence trying out for Juventus every time they take the field.  Tryouts are merely an additional opportunity to show the coaching staff how much a player has progressed throughout the year, as well as give them an opportunity to evaluate certain players together with other players.  Additionally there may be exhibition game(s) against other club team(s) to further evaluate players.

Q:  Are tryouts open to all 97 boys?

A:  Yes, tryouts for the team are open to all boys of the correct age.

Q: Is there a cost to tryout for the Juventus 97 boys team?

A:  No, but you first must register for the tryout.

Q: How do I register for tryouts?

A: Print out the “Registration Form” from the Juventus website and bring it with you to the first day of tryouts or register on-line.

Q: How does a player make the team?

A: All players must compete for roster positions.  Having played for Juventus in previous year(s ) or season(s) does not guarantee one a spot on the team.

Q: How are the players evaluated at tryouts?

A: The coaches from the Juventus 97 Boys will evaluate the players.

Q: What do the Juventus 97 Boys coaches look for in players?

A:  While tryouts vary from team to team club to club, the Juventus 97 coaches look for players who have the potential of becoming high-level, competitive players. Throughout the tryout, coaches assess several player qualities, including but not limited to:

1.    Technical skill.

2.    Tactical awareness.

3.    Physical abilities.

4.    Psychological dimension.

Q: What should players expect to do during tryouts?

A: Players will be evaluated in small-game situations without goalkeepers as well as larger-game situations with goalkeepers.  Specific general fitness may also be evaluated as it is expected all players should be able to last 70 to 80 minutes playing a highly competitive game.

Q: Can I tryout for more than one age group?

A: Yes, you can tryout for your true age group as well as an older age group. If you are planning on trying out for an older age group, you are encouraged to consult the coach of that team

Q:  What should I do if I am going to miss the tryout dates?

A:  If you are going to miss the tryout dates or if you are planning to move to Edmonton after the tryout period, you are encouraged to contact the Head Coach prior to tryouts. This will ensure that your name is listed for players hoping to secure a spot on a team once the team starts training.  Once you arrive in Edmonton, you will be invited to training and a decision on your placement will be made at that time.

Q:  Do I need to go to each tryout?

A:  The public tryout dates are important because they give a player the best opportunity to be seen playing with the current team that will continue in the season ahead. All players are expected to be at all tryout sessions.   If you cannot be at all sessions an exception may be granted only by contacting the Head Coach in advance for formal permission at 780-953-9982.

Each year there may be a few players who are added to a roster that miss tryouts due to relocation, injury, vacation etc.  These players may be invited to train with and eventually be selected to the team based on the circumstances of which they missed tryouts.

Q: I play other sports; will that be a problem?

A: There will always be conflicts with players playing multiple sports.  If selected to the team you will still be expected to maintain a certain level of commitment with the Juventus 97 boys team.  Part of player commitment expected is being able to handle all obligations that a student has while still being prepared for practices and games.  Missing training may impact your playing time during league or tournament games.  Attendance is tracked throughout each season.

Q: How many players will be selected for the Juventus 97 Boys team?

A: The “Team” may consist of up to 20 players.  It does not mean however that 20 players will be necessarily selected.

Q: What happens after the last tryout?

A:  At the conclusion of the tryouts, each coach nominates players for the roster.  Exhibition game(s) may be arranged to further evaluate the nominated players.  All coaches involved in the tryout process will finalize the roster choices after any exhibition game(s).

Q: How long before we know what the outcome is?

A:  72 hours after the last exhibition game, players will be notified whether or not they made the team, in some cases players will be notified sooner.

Q: What if a player does not get selected for the primary 97 boys team?

A:  All players not selected will be omitted from the team list once they are submitted to the Register after tryouts and exhibition game(s).  Effort will also be made to contact each player by phone.  This in no way suggests that they are not quality players, or that they should give up their hopes of playing club soccer.  It simply means that the coaches felt there were other players better suited for this team's level of play.

Q:  If not selected to primary team will there be a second team

A:  That would depend on the number of players at the tryouts who the coaches feel that would be suitable for the competition level of EIYSA U-14 Tier 2 play.  It will also depend on whether or not there is coach for a second team.

Q:  What if a player is selected?

A:  If a player has been selected the player will be contacted by telephone or in person.

Q:  What travel obligations will we have?

A:  Some regular season games will have to be played in Red Deer, which involve Edmonton teams playing Edmonton teams.  The team may begin to travel outside the province to experience other competition.  These tournaments are a way to expand the competition level, exposure to college scouts, and to experience soccer in another region.

Q:  How soon will my son start with their new team?

A:  Training for the season will resume after team selection and will begin training as soon as possible on outdoors or using rented facility until we can get outside.

Q: How many teams are selected in each age group?

A:  Current EIYSA rules only allow two teams per each tier for each club but each team must consist of minimum of 15 players.

Q: Will my child get an equal amount of playing time if selected for the team?

A:  Your child will be given an opportunity for an equal amount of practice time.  All playing time is earned.  It depends on a number of factors such as a player’s work ethic in practice, attendance and game performance.  Keep the 8 P’s in mind.  Proper, prior planning and practice prevents painfully poor performance.
